Poco F4 5G Review: A solid mid-range smartphone you won't regret buying!

The Poco F4 5G appears to be quite promising, especially with its pricing. Customers may get a sleek body, a 64-megapixel main camera, a 67W fast charger, and a 20-megapixel front camera for Rs 27,999. The company is putting a lot of emphasis on performance with the Poco F4 5G, much like it did with other Poco phones. One of the primary features of the Poco P4 is the Snapdragon 870 chipset that it has.

It's crucial to realize that specs don't always live up to the hype. This is the reason why there are phone reviews. And now that I've used the Poco F4 5G for almost two weeks, I can say with certainty that it's one of the phones that lives up to its billing. Similar to most other phones on the market, it is not faultless.

So, the question is still:- Who should purchase the Poco F4 5G, and who should avoid it? In this review, let's explore?

Poco F4 5G (Display And Design)

Poco F4 5G Design

At first appearance, the Poco F4 5G seems attractive. It has a glass back, which is now exceptionally rare in this market. The 7.7mm thickness of the phone and its sleek appearance are further features. The thin body and smooth glass back improve its overall look and feel. With the wide range of phones available, finding cases for your particular phone is becoming increasingly difficult. specifically during the launch.

However, Poco has included a transparent silicone Poco F4 5G case in the packaging.

The Poco F4 is available in two colors: green and black.  There are almost always Poco phones available in the brand's distinctive yellow. Surprisingly, this color has not yet been made available for the Poco F4 5G.

Moving on to the display, it features FullHD+ resolution and HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support. Additionally, Corning Gorilla Glass protection is included, which increases durability. Despite the fact that we have seen that certain glasses are shatterproof, none of them are. If you don't handle your phone carefully, it could end up with a cracked screen.

The Poco F4 5G's 120Hz refresh rate display makes navigation and gaming sessions equally fluid. In the performance part, I'll go into greater detail on gaming.

The 20-megapixel front camera is located within a small punch hole that Poco used on the front plate. In fact, it is small enough to be overlooked when watching a movie.

Poco F4 5G (Performance)

Poco F4 5G Performance

The Snapdragon 870 chipset found in the Poco F4 5G is gradually replacing other options for smartphone OEMs who want to build reasonably priced, potent smartphones. Customers have a choice of three storage options:

  • 6GB RAM and 128GB storage
  • 8GB RAM and 128GB storage
  • 12GB RAM and 256GB storage

All models feature UFS 3.1 storage and LPD DR5 RAM. The 6GB of RAM might be a drawback in demanding games or when there are too many apps running in the background.

The phone uses MIUI, an Android 12.0-based operating system, and users receive a tonne of junk in addition to MIUI native apps. For the Poco F4 5G, Poco has promised at least one significant Android upgrade. In other words, it will receive Android 13 whenever it occurs, but nothing else is guaranteed.

The Poco F4 5G achieved scores of 979 and 3,228 on Geekbench's single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. Its graphics processing unit (GPU) completed the one-minute Wild Life test of 3DMark with a score of 4,332 points and an average frame rate of 25.9. When compared to competitors like Motorola and Neo 6 5G, both scores are favorable.

Poco F4 5G (Camera)

Poco F4 5G camera

The Poco F4 5G has decent camera performance. The 64-megapixel primary camera produces high-quality photos and videos when used to capture bright light. Most competitors in the market are unable to capture stable clips in 4K videos like the main camera with OIS. The Poco F4 5G struggles to capture colours at night or in low light, but the pictures are delightfully clear.

The 2-megapixel macro camera is useless, while the 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera produces fuzzy images.

The 20-megapixel front camera is now the feature that jumps out. The Poco F4 5G captures natural skin tones well, as opposed to the enhanced colours that many smartphones in this market strive for. The front camera produces images that are sharp and vibrant, even in portrait mode. On the other hand, the video is at best passable and there is no option to record 4K videos.

Poco F4 5G (Battery)

Poco F4 5G Battery

The 4,500mAh battery of the Poco F4 5G is very sizable and supports 67W fast charging. A full charge takes about 40 minutes to complete, while the phone needs about 12 minutes to reach 50% battery life. The stats match what Poco claims, so it's comforting to know that there are products and businesses that can provide what they promise in writing.

In case you were wondering, the box does actually come with a large charger that has a 67W output and a Type-C connector.
In my experience, the phone comfortably lasted for a whole day with 4G, AOD (always on display) activated a 120Hz screen and about 20 to 30 minutes of gaming.

The Poco F4 5G took more than two hours to record a time-lapse film that lasted almost an hour in my video loop test. To keep the phone from overheating, it paused recording in between. This outcome is far better than what I had observed on the Xiaomi 12 Pro, which ran for an hour and provided a time-lapse video that lasted about 25 minutes.

Closing Thoughts:-

Overall, the POCO F4 is an excellent smartphone and gaming platform that can meet the requirements of the majority of mobile gamers. It is an optional device to cut through foes or shoot down opponents in your app of choice thanks to the colourful screen and silky-smooth performance.

Performance definitely costs a lot, at a cost of RS 30.000. Having said that, I can't argue that the money is visible in the gadget. The POCO F4 is a phone that's worth keeping an eye out for if you're searching for a device that can take your gaming to the next level.
